The world does not owe you happiness, health, love, respect, or money.
The world owes you nothing.
You are where you are because of your decisions, not because of your circumstances.
Stop whining and stop being bitter.
Take responsibility for yourself.
Be big enough to say this is my life, I’m responsible for it, and I’m going to make something out of it.
– Isaiah Hankel
There have been numerous times where I failed to achieve something and I would blame the circumstance/situation I was in or find some excuse to justify why I couldn’t obtain it. Many of the excuses and blames were valid but that didn’t mean I had to stop because of those reasons. I could have taken another route. I could have tried a different alternative. But I didn’t. And because I didn’t, I am not where I would like to be.
When I stumbled upon the quote by Isaiah I was completely taken aback. I hadn’t realized that although situations and people influenced my outcomes it was never anyone’s fault but mine. I didn’t find an alternative way to obtain my goals. I didn’t try hard enough.
This time, I am wiser. I am awake. I am aware that the only people who can effect my life is me. I am the driver and I steer my life path. It is time to get up from my seat and to stop waiting for someone to give me a hand. It is time for me to start taking action if I want to see my life go towards the direction that I want it to.
So, tonight, I hope you take 10 minutes of your time to reflect where you are and how you came to be there. Then imagine your dreams and goals and examine why and how you are not there yet. Find the excuses you make and mentally destroy them. Know that you are the one responsible for your life and now is the time to take action. Now is the time to stop waiting, stop hiding, stop cowering and face them head on.
Your dreams, goals, and future depend on you.
